Jonas Jenty is 17 years old and has been with Father Marc for many years. I met him on my first trip to Haiti in 2002 along with his brother Ronald who works at Castel Pere in the woodworking department. Jonas has remained a special friend all these years.

Jonas is the master of the beaded bracelets and necklaces. He makes them from multicolored beads and sometimes colored stones. Many of my friends have bought them for their grandchildren and the kids love them. The necklaces and bracelets are pictured elsewhere on this blog.

Now that we are flying in and out of Les Cayes I can always expect Jonas to be at the small airport to greet me .

Sorry for the small picture I had to cut out some other stuff.

This is Sammy, he has an incredible enthusiasm for his work. He welcomes new ideas and is always open to suggestions on how to make his craft more desirable. When Sammy came to Pwoje Espwa his raw talent was discovered and nurtered. Now a lot of the creative genius comes from him. When I left in March he was struggling with the end of the semester exams and I am sure he did well.

The arts and crafts department recently moved out to Castel Pere and more kids are enjoying the satisfaction that comes with creating. The older kids are an inspiration for the younger ones, giving them hands on experience in the creative process.

You can help by purchasing the crafts and thus giving the teens a sense of pride. There are lots of choices so peruse the blog and hopefully find something for you or your loved one.
